Dog with an attitude…

In my every day life, I expect my kids to give me attitude. And they don’t disappoint me!!! The smaller the child, the more back talking. I am getting so used to it that I barely notice now. In fact, I am wondering whether I would miss it if one day, all my kids decided to be completely obedient. But that’s really a waste of a thought, because IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

So seeing as I have been so lame at teaching children to listen to me, I got myself some pets. I was convinced that they for sure would listen to me, maybe fear me a little if I was lucky. Just a side note, if you are thinking of getting some pets to show you respect, may I advice to stay away from cats. Cats are obnoxious, careless, lawless and super, super selfish. Dogs are a better bet. At least that’s what I experienced until a few days ago…

Up until recently, Pepper was the best dog in the world. Always in a good mood, nice to us, never attacked any piece of furniture (not every pet can say that, huh Athena!!!) . He would also never dream of coming around the table when we were eating. He knew better.

But lately, I can’t say I am that impressed with his behavior. He has developed some attitude, in the form of talking back at me, and I don’t like it one bit.

A couple of days ago, Skye was eating a brownie (and in case you wonder, NO, I don’t bake them with carrots or hide anything healthy in it. I don’t even bake them at all, I just buy them. They are 100% pure old junk!). Then out of the blue, Pepper came right under her chair and started licking all the crumbs – which amounted to a good half of the brownie. I am not saying that Pepper never makes mischief, he does. But normally, he would hide from me, wait that I turn my back. But not anymore. He licked the crumbs which he was not allowed to and was totally in my face about it! “Pepper! Stop that! Chocolate is very bad for you!” At this point, I was not so concerned about his manner, but more about the fact that that stuff can be poisonous to him. And here is what Pepper replied to me: “Why? It’s not good for you either and you eat it all day so what are you trying to say?” Can you believe the cheekiness of that dog?!!

He did not use these exact words but that’s what his eyes were saying. Take a look…

“I am only saying this for your own good, Pepper. I don’t want you to be sick”. I do love my dog, and I also don’t like picking up his puke so two good reasons to keep him healthy. But that ungrateful four legged giant was not able to see that. Instead he went, “Whatever…” as the picture CLEARLY shows…

I don’t know where he gets his bad attitude from. The other day, he stole a whole stick of butter from the table. I mean COME ON!!! If you are going to get caught making mischief, get busted for something that’s worth it. Like steal a cookie, or a steak. But a stick of butter?! That dog still has a long way to go before he becomes a kid…
