Liebster award … Yeay!!!

Thank you Celeste, from Leapfrog and Lip Gloss (www.leapfrogandlipgloss.com)  , for nominating me for the Liebster award! Yeay!!

For “young” bloggers like me (HA!! I knew I could fit “young” and “me” in the same sentence, without it being opposite day), it means that someone thinks my website deserves some recognition. I am honored, Celeste, truly! You are such a great supporter of my posts, you totally rock!

  • Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger that nominated you
  • Nominate 11 new bloggers with 500 or less followers
  • Write 11 new questions for your nominees

So here is my story…

11 facts about myself

1. When I am driving alone, I put the music really loud and sing to my steering wheel like I mean it, baby!!

2. I chose myself an American name to make life easier when I order a coffee or get on a waiting list at the restaurant. Because Nadesh, Nedej, or Nodje are not my name. So might as well go for something completely different. My American name is Larry!

3. I loooove moving. Packing boxes, unpacking them. Organizing the whole thing.  Although my posts and books make me appear disorganized and messy, inside me lives a very tidy and neat little self. She just does not get enough room to express her potential, that’s all…

4. Every major place in my life is associated with a distinctive smell: France, especially Paris, London, America. As soon as I think about a place, the first thing I sense or remember is its smell. Some people would say I am an olfactory person; my brother just thinks I have a big nose…

5. I have a dream that one day, I will run a marathon. It’s on my bucket list, but every year I find a good reason why it’s not the right time yet. Wanna know last year’s excuse? “People run it well into their 70’s, so what’s the rush?”

6. I am the weakest mom ever! My kids can get anything out of me with the right amount of flattery and I-love-you’s.

7. I have quite an addictive personality. Sometimes, my kids try to show me a game they like and I run away from their device, screaming, “No! No! No! I don’t want to know!!!!” For real… Because if I look at the evil stuff, guess what I will be doing for the next fifteen hours of every single day?

8. There is one thing I DO NOT SHARE and it is chocolate. Never, with no one! And by the way, I really do have a secret stash.

9. I am an incurable romantic… in my head at least…

10. I left France over twenty years ago but have never lived in any country for long enough to allow my roots to take ground. There is nowhere I can call home really. That makes me a little sad…

11. If I could change one thing in my life, I would want to have the ability to get up at 5am every morning and function. I hate getting up!! I analyze everything into, “How early do I need to get up to get it done?” And if the answer is anything before 7.30am, I swear I could cry… I do get up to get the kids ready to school (BTW, shouldn’t school start at 9.30am?), but I can’t say I function until I have three gallons of coffee and a cold shower.

11 Questions from Celeste

1) Why do you blog?

I hope that people come to my blog or read my books, because they want to feel normal and get a good chuckle after a long day. We are shown picture perfect people, houses, lives etc… constantly. But that’s not who we are. We need to reconnect with and embrace our true self. We know we look better when dressed up and hair / make up done, but we cannot be bothered all the time. We dream of wearing pumps, while getting into our bunny-shaped slippers. We know a good mother is calm and in control while we just dropped a “What the f@^%?” in front of our kids. Of course our house should be tidy, but it is 8pm and we are totally done for the day. And while we know it would be best to give organic strawberries to our children, does it really matter if they are topped with double fudge chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, frosting and colored rainbow sprinkles? What does that make us? Pretty normal I think. That was my short answer, by the way…

2) What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

I am French so we eat a lot of strange things: snails, frog legs and some animal parts you would not want to look at, let alone eat…

3) Who is your celebrity doppelganger? (Will you post a pic of yourself so we can see the resemblance?)

France Gall, French singer

DSCN0729

4) What is one of your major pet-peeves?

I don’t have any!! Or too many to list maybe…

5) You’re only allowed to wear one type of cosmetic for the rest of your life.  What do you choose?

Lipstick! I love lipstick in all different colors. But with no other make up and bright red lips, my celebrity doppelganger will need to be changed to Dracula.

6) Are you a cat or dog person?

I am a dog person.  Although admittedly, my favorite, favorite kind of pets is somebody else’s dog! Don’t tell that to my dog! And certainly don’t go about saying anything to my cat!

7) Do you prefer reading on a tablet or holding an actual copy of the book?

Holding a book. You cannot smell a book on a tablet.

8) What is your favorite post you’ve ever written?

I like my mini series about “What would change if moms ruled the world?”. I am having so much fun writing these!

9) How did you pick your blog’s name?

In an amazing moment of genius and creativity, I thought I would use my first and last name!

10) Where is the worst place you could get stuck?

Anywhere that is dark, with no windows and no way out: like stuck in a traffic jam in a tunnel, or an elevator.

11) Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give to your 13-year old self?

Empathize with the world around you. If you show empathy, people will feel validated and acknowledged and will reciprocate. It will allow them to be more open, less defensive and overall happier. Empathy could solve so many issues! That’s my two cents about humanity!!

  1. I’m so glad I picked you… you are so interesting! I love the answer to “Why do you blog” the most, I think. I had to google the French singer, but I do see a strong resemblance! I’m glad I’m not the only one with a Starbucks name, although I just use something boring like, “Mary”. I should change it up… I love yours, haha!

    • nadege nicoll says:

Thanks Celeste, you are such a great sports. There is a whole story behind my starbucks name. My husband thinks I am a female version of Larry David in “Curb your enthusiasm”. This is OF COURS a great compliment. But it does not work too well for me, because people always go, “Lori?”

  2. I drive and crank up the tunes as well! Love that about you. I am such a smell person also. I am thrown back to so many times in my life from a tiny whiff of something. I don’t know that about too many people. I feel your pain about the lack of roots. i moved so much growing up. I can so relate! We have a lot in common, Nadege. How fun to read and learn more about you. I am working on my post right now.

How funny! I cannot wait to see your post on this. It was definitely a fun exercise to try to come up with 11 facts about myself. I can’t wait to read yours. I am glad I picked you, we have so much in common!

  3. Oh my goodness your doppelganger is hilarious. Just reinforces why I already like you and your blog. You and me are on the same wavelength with lipstick as well. Thanks for the nomination. I am humbled.

    • Nadege Nicoll says:

Thank you, you are too kind!!! I cannot wait to read your reply. It is such a fun way to “meet” people.
