My vacation in one word…

I went on a little break. Not long, just a few days. A vacation within the vacation! For the first time EVER in the history of me being a mom, I have left my entire gang in England to hop on to the South of France. All by myself. Sounds exotic and fun. Except that I have horrible motion sickness and I had to take two planes to go down to France, and two to get back to England. That’s four take offs, landings, and many, many, MANY turbulences. And I am not even counting the trip from and to the US because that would be far too depressing. So… yeah… Other than the trip, it was looking pretty good.

I absolutely love and adoooooore my children. But the one truly tough thing when I go anywhere with them is that they always need the toilet. At the oddest times, and one after the other. So wherever we go, I can be sure we’ll spend a pretty good chunk of our time in the bathroom. I am so terribly allergic to public restrooms, it takes a lot of my enjoyment away.

So for my few days of relative freedom, I did not want toilets to be part of my daily routine.  Well… I should have been more careful what I wished for…. I did not want to see any toilet, and I did not see any. At all! Not even when I would have liked to…

I spent all my days at my house in France to meet with the builder who is working on some renovations at our place. Right now, he is redoing the bathrooms. All of them. So he has gutted them out. And started to renovate. Do you know how you renovate a bathroom? Well, let me tell you: you do a lot of stuff that take a lot of time and that I am sure are very very important and all that. But the most important fact is that you plug the toilet in LAST. ALL OF THEM.

My few days of freedom turned into a logistical nightmare. Every morning, I had to decide when to drink what, in order to time my fluid intake with possible bathroom breaks. I became OBSESSED with toilets. I think I even dreamed about being able to go there whenever I felt like it. But it was just a dream… So, not quite the vacation I had in mind…

When I go back home, I am going to give each toilet a hug. Just for being here…
